Under- / overpressure Safety Relief Valve
Datasheet for Safety Relief Valve
Installation and Maintenance of the SPV

The safety relief vale cares for a controlled breathing of a tank facility. Thus the desired vacuum or overpressure is never exceeded.

If a relief valve can not guarantee the operativeness due to the design or construction, accidents will occur with uncontrolled liquid and gas emission or implosions. A vacuum of 500mbar would destruct a cylindrical vessel.

Installation:

The safety relief valve is factory mounted and set to the desired pressure. The SPV is to be installed upright at the end of the ventilation pipe that leads to the vessel. The valve has a 2" female screw thread.

The SPV is screwed to the existing male thread of the ventilation pipe. Manifolds may be used on demand. Sealants are not needed, because the SPV has a sufficient gasket. It is advisable to wet the screw thread of the ventilation pipe with lubricant, so that the valve can be installed easily.

In case the ventilation with one relief valve is not sufficient, e.g. at high issue quantities at petrol stations without a vapour recovery system, several valves may be connected parallel to a manifold.

Maintenance:

The SPV is virtually maintenance-free due to the design and the used materials.

To guarantee the operativeness of the valve, a recurring routine maintenance is required. It should be done with the general inspection of the facilities, but within 5 years.

The following has to be checked:

  • tight connection of the SPV to the ventilation pipe
  • clear annular gap around the gas in- and outlet (if necessary remove dirt and mud)
  • the sealing balls mustn't be stuck
